“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
On Sunday Pastor John spoke about compassion and how it basically means “co-suffering.” When you see something that isn’t right, whether it be a mistreated animal, a neglected child, a forgotten veteran, a lonely elderly neighbor, or some other injustice…and your heart aches…that’s compassion! God gives us compassion as motivation to respond. Let’s respond how Jesus would: with love, giving, kindness, encouragement, and gentleness.
Holy Spirit, You are our Comforter and Counselor. I pray that those needing compassion in this holiday season would draw closer to You. Open my eyes to those around me whom I can help. Show me with whom I can share Your love, kindness, and truth. And draw people to You through the wonder and truth of the real Christmas story. Amen.
