Why Are You Afraid?

But soon a fierce storm came up. High waves were breaking into the boat, and it began to fill with water. Jesus was sleeping at the back of the boat with his head on a cushion. The disciples woke him up, shouting, “Teacher, don’t you care that we’re going to drown?” When Jesus woke up, he rebuked the wind and said to the waves, “Silence! Be still!” Suddenly the wind stopped, and there was a great calm. Then he asked them, “Why are you afraid? Do you still have no faith?” Mark 4:37-40
How often do we walk through storms in our life and act like the disciples? We ask God if He cares, if He's listening, if He would do something. But in this story Jesus is literally sleeping during a huge thunderstorm. I think this speaks to the character of God, because He isn't scared or concerned when we go through storms. He knows that He is in control. We know that God is faithful. He hasn't failed us and never will.
Jesus, I am so glad that You listen to all of my fears. You bring calm to the storms in my life. I pray that I would be reminded to have faith during the hard times in my life because I know that the wind and waves obey You. Amen.
