Did you ever have a friend growing up, or maybe you have one now, that was "like family?"
You know, the friend that did everything you and your family did. They ate at your place, slept at your place, went on your trips even... Those kinds of friends are great, because they're just like family. But even though they're "like family" I can bet that if they asked your parents to pay for their college tuition or wedding, they wouldn't, because although they're "like family" they're not you --- they're not they're real son or daughter.
But as a believer, when it comes to God, you're not just "like family" -- you are are family. You are a child of the King.
"All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms because we are united with Christ. Even before he made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in his eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure. So we praise God for the glorious grace he has poured out on us who belong to his dear Son. He is so rich in kindness and grace that he purchased our freedom with the blood of his Son and forgave our sins."
- Ephesians 1:3-7
You are loved and accepted by God. His glorious grace, given to you through the person of Jesus Christ, has made you a part of his family. It is not something you have to hope or long for. It's just... yours.
Lord, thank you for adopting me into your family. Thank you for loving me and thank you for sending Jesus to account for my mistakes. Help me to live my life like a child of the King. In Jesus' name, amen.
