Up Close and Personal

Psalms 8:3-4 "When I look at the night sky and see the work of your fingers - the moon and the stars you set in place - what are mere mortals that you should think about them, human beings that you should care for them?

The Message version says "Why do you bother with us? Why take a second to look our way?"

If you look at everything that God created, He has a lot prettier things to look at than humans. We are messy, sinful, dirty people. Yet, for some reason God wants to sit next to you and chat all day. He wants to wipe your tears when you cry. He wants to be the one to slip you the $300 of rent money you need. He wants to be the father you never had. He wants so desperately for you to notice Him so He can tell you He loves you. In fact, He doesn't just want to be all these things, He IS all these things! God IS listening. God IS caring. God IS kind. Go IS our provider. God IS love!

The answer to why He bothers with us is that He loves us. We can't comprehend just why He gives us 14,582 second chances, or why He still loves us after we have lived a care-free sinful life, but the good news for us is that He does because it's WHO He is, not just what He does.

Pick an attribute of God and thank Him for it: God I am so thankful that You care about me. God, I am so grateful that You listen and talk to me. God, I am astounded at Your kindness. God, thank You for providing for me. But most importantly, I am eternally thankful for Your love. I love you. Amen.
