Have you ever had a rotten piece of fruit? Maybe a rotten apple or a banana? I haven't, but it sounds disgusting. Could you imagine being handed rotten fruit and then having to eat it? Blech. But what would you say if I told you that sometimes, you and I give people rotten fruit to eat? It's true we do.
You see, the Bible says in Galatians 5 that we produce either fruit of the Spirit, which is good and fresh fruit, or fruit of the flesh, which is rotten and gross fruit. The fruit of the Spirit gives life to you and to those around you. They are good qualities, the same qualities that Jesus lived out.
"But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!"
- Galatians 5:22-23
So today, when you're talking with or about your boss, spouse, friend, coworker, etc, think about what you're saying and doing. Is it producing fresh, delicious fruit that will bring life to those around you or is it producing rotten, nasty fruit that only brings distraction and destruction?
God, I want everything that I say and do to produce fresh fruit that brings life to those around me. Help me to spend more time in your Word so that I can better know you and better live the life you've called me to. In Jesus' name, amen.
