The Strong Shepherd

Posted: December 19, 2018

“But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel…He will stand and shepherd his flock in the strength of the Lord, in the majesty of the name of the Lord his God. And they will live securely, for then his greatness will reach to the ends of the earth.” Micah 5:2, 4

When you think of a shepherd, you probably don’t immediately think of strength, but that’s exactly who Jesus is. As Pastor Ryan said in his message about gentleness in August: “it takes a lot of strength to be gentle.”
Jesus is a kind, gentle shepherd of people, but He is also as strong as God because He IS God! We sometimes forget that.

Jesus, it’s hard for me to comprehend just how immensely gentle You are at the same time that You are majestically strong. Thank You that I can live securely in You, the Good Shepherd. This holiday season, help me to communicate the wonder of your gentle strength to those around me. Amen.
