“Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world.”
- 1 John 2:15-16 NLT
Distractions... they're constantly begging for my attention. But I need to be attentive to the Lord and the leading of His Spirit. I need to be so close that I can hear him speaking, even in the midst of a crowd full of noise. I need to sense his leading, even when I'm busy doing something else.
You know how easy it is to be motivated by the "now" - we all do, I mean, we live in a world full of instant gratification. We can feel, touch, smell, see, and enjoy things right now.
Contrarily, we can't see heaven or worship with the angels in heaven right now. BUT, we can experience a taste of it now... here. We shouldn't be moved by what we see. We shouldn't be motivated by what we see. We should only desire God, and the things of God.
Lord, it's easy to desire the things of the now. It's easy to chase after those things. Help me to make you the most important thing in my life. Help me to spend time with you and listen to your voice, above all else. In Jesus' name, amen.
