“God judges persons differently than humans do. Men and women look at the face; God looks into the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7 (The Message)
This story is about when Samuel is looking for the next king among Jesse's sons. Eliab looked the part, but God told Samuel that he wasn't the one. Ironically, David was described as "bright-eyed, good-looking, an excellent musician, courageous, well-spoken..." **but here comes the most important part** "...and God is with him."
We've all heard not to judge a book by its cover. If you judged Eliab by his "cover," you'd have been wrong. If you judged David by his "cover" you'd happen to be right. The point is, when dealing with people, no matter how things appear, God looks at the heart and so should we.
Lord, help me to see through to the heart of those around me. I don't want to judge anyone according to my limited views. And more importantly God, be with me. I want your presence to always be evident in my life. Amen.
