The Great Race

Posted: May 25, 2019

Hebrews 12: 1-2 says, "Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith."

As Christians, we are going to have people watching us: what we say, what we do, what we post on social media. Therefore, we need to make sure that we are living a life that reflects the way that God has told us to live. While this may be intimidating, it is a good reminder and challenge to keep ourselves in check.

A runner wouldn't run a marathon with weights attached to him, slowing him down, so why should we?  We are not perfect and we are going to sin since it's in our nature, but this scripture tells us that we need to throw off this weight of sin. During our walk with Christ it will be tough, God didn't promise it would be easy, but He does give us the strength to keep going.

God, I pray that if there is anything hindering me from growing closer to you that you would help me to get rid of it. Thank you for giving me the strength to continue on your path. I pray that today, and every day, my sole focus would be on you. Amen.
