The Beatitudes - Part 8

“When Jesus saw his ministry drawing huge crowds, he climbed a hillside. Those who were apprenticed to him, the committed, climbed with him. Arriving at a quiet place, he sat down and taught his climbing companions. This is what he said:
“You’re blessed when your commitment to God provokes persecution. The persecution drives you even deeper into God’s kingdom.” Matthew 5:1, 10
There are many stories in the Bible about persecution, but there are men and women suffering today for their faith as well. It is so heartbreaking to think about the abuse people have endured just because they love Jesus.
However, when we hear the testimonies of those who are suffering because of their faith, they report deeper levels of intimacy with Jesus. As Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 12:10, “…for when I am weak, then I am strong.”
Heavenly Father, I pray now for every person around the world who is being persecuted and abused because of their faith in You. Save them, protect them, rescue them! And give them the deeper levels of intimacy with You that will be a reward they could never fathom. Amen.
