When you think of the word surrender, initially it sounds like something you do when you’re weak and ready to give up, bow out, or walk away. And in many cases, that is what it means! In a literal battle, the one who surrenders is the one who is weaker and will walk away in defeat.

But did you know that in our spiritual walk, surrendering actually puts us in the position of strength? How does that make sense?

When you surrender to Christ, and to His will and authority, you’ve given up the fight against Him and have now joined with Him in the battles you face. We know that Christ is ultimately victorious, so when you join with Christ, surrendering your own will and desires, you are victorious too (1 Corinthians 15:57 NLT).

So take a moment and surrender: your heart, your feet, your hands, your mind, your will, and your desires. Join with him in strength!

“Surrender your heart to God, turn to him in prayer, and give up your sins—even those you do in secret. Then you won’t be ashamed; you will be confident and fearless.” Job 11:13-15 CEV

Lord, I surrender my heart and all that I am to you. Help me to do your will, joining with you in strength, and sharing in your victory. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
