Structural Integrity

Posted: February 13, 2019

“…We use our powerful God-tools for smashing warped philosophies, tearing down barriers erected against the truth of God, fitting every loose thought and emotion and impulse into the structure of life shaped by Christ. Our tools are ready at hand for clearing the ground of every obstruction and building lives of obedience into maturity.” 2 Corinthians 10:5 (The Message)

This passage make me imagine big screws in a wooden jungle gym, or a pile of legos. (I’m an adult, I swear!) These “loose thoughts and emotions” can be negative thoughts, temptations, wrong impulses, or internal struggles. They’re like misshapen legos or an old, stripped screw: they undermine the structural integrity of a mature, obedient, Christ-focused life.

So what’s the plan? How do we make sure the blueprint that Jesus lays out for us comes to fruition? How do we ensure that it stands for years to come? You probably already know the answer, but I’m going to sound like a child again. Sing it with me: “read your Bible, pray everyday, and you’ll grow, grow, grow…”

Jesus, I want to tear down barriers erected against Your truth. I want to build a life of obedience and maturity. I want to be so familiar and handy with the tools You’ve given me that I can clear any obstruction quickly and easily. I know this will only come with time and discipline. Renew my strength and help me grow. Amen.
