I recently read a quote that said, “There are no second chances in life, except to feel remorse.”
If you’re like me, you’ve probably wished at one time or another for a second chance at something. Maybe a second chance at making a first impression. A second chance at saying words you now wish you could take back. A second chance at making some of life’s biggest decisions.
While it’s true in life that sometimes we don’t get second chances and that we may live with the consequences of our mistakes, there is good news!
Our God is a God of second chances.
Think about the story of the prodigal son in the gospel of Luke. He had taken his share of his father’s estate, squandered it, ran out of money, food and hope. Although he didn’t deserve a second chance, his father welcomed him home with open arms, celebrating his return despite his multiple mistakes.
The same is true with our Heavenly Father. Even though we may not get all the second chances we want in life, we always have second chances with God if we turn back to him with a repentant heart.
“So he returned home to his father. And while he was still a long way off, his father saw him coming. Filled with love and compassion, he ran to his son, embraced him, and kissed him."
- Luke 15:20 NLT
Lord, thank you that you are a God of second chances. Thank you that you will welcome me with open arms when I return to you. In Jesus’ name, amen.
