“The righteous man walks in his integrity; His children are blessed after him.” - Proverbs 20:7 NKJV
If you've ever put money into a 401k before, you know the benefits of it. You make a sacrifice now, and when you retire, you get a return on that investment (ROI). The principle applies to so many areas of our lives. If you study hard, you will pass the test. If you practice hard, you will get better. You get what I mean.
The Lord is quick to bless those who obey him, but he is also eager and able to bless their children, and on down through the generations. It is good to keep his commands, not only because he says so, but because our children will reap the reward. They will reap what we sow.
Our legacy is our Return On Investment.
Reflecting on this verse, you quickly realize what additional motivation there is for living upright, honoring God with our thoughts, words and actions.
If you live with integrity, your children will be blessed. If you walk upright, your children will have favor with the Lord. If you honor the Lord, He will honor your children.
Lord, thank you for Your Word. Help me, Lord, to walk with integrity, to be led by your Spirit, and to bring glory to you with every decision I make, not just for my sake, but for my children's sake. In Jesu's name, amen.
