To be a follower of Christ, we must be intentional in how we live. This means we must also be intentional in our relationships! Jesus was intentional with his relationships. He ate with sinners and spent time with people that were considered the lowest of low on the social class. He was a friend of sinners intentionally!
But here’s the key: he was not their friend for their support, their guidance, or direction. They were not his inner circle on whom he relied. Instead, he was their friend to show them love and grace, and to teach them truth!
So as you continue your “friendentory” and set boundaries on the relationships in your life, pray and ask God for wisdom in how to navigate the relationships in your life.
“So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.”
- Ephesians 5:15-17 NLT
Lord, thank you that you are a friend to sinners like me. I pray for wisdom and guidance in my relationships, and that you would show me how to make the most of every opportunity with the people in my life, but doing so carefully and prayerfully. In Jesus’ name, amen.
