Quarterbacks and Ballerinas

Posted: September 07, 2016

If you saw a football quarterback trying to dance in a ballet, you’d probably laugh and wonder why he was in a ballet instead of on a football field, where he was obviously suited for using his skills.

And vice versa, if you saw a ballet dancer trying to throw a touch down pass, you’d probably recognize that as a bad idea and tell her to stick with her elegant leaps on stage. You wouldn’t want her to get tackled unnecessarily!

So what about you? Do you know what your God-given strengths and abilities are? Are you a football player awkwardly trying to leap through life, or a ballet dancer trying to throw passes that are always getting intercepted?

Take some time to pray and ask God to reveal to you your gifting. Once you’ve identified your strengths, starting serving well!

“In his grace, God has given us different gifts for doing certain things well. So if God has given you the ability to prophesy, speak out with as much faith as God has given you. If your gift is serving others, serve them well. If you are a teacher, teach well. If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously. If God has given you leadership ability, take the responsibility seriously. And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly.”

- Romans 12:6-8 NLT

Lord, thank you that you’ve given me specific gifts for doing certain things well. Help me identify my particular gifts and abilities, and then empower me to do them well for your glory! In Jesus’ name, amen.
