"Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything." James 1:2-4
This verse, I admit, is hard to swallow. If you pray this and you mean it, you're basically asking for trials, and who wants that?!
But on the other hand, who doesn't want maturity, perseverance, faith, and wholeness? It's like the saying goes "everybody wants happiness, nobody wants pain, but you can't have a rainbow without a little rain."
Father, help me to see Your hand in all that I have to endure. Troubles are hard to walk through, but I want to get past the "hating it" part and see the growth, even in the midst of it. It's hard to pray this, but I want to be willing to walk through trials to become more like You. Amen.
