Have you ever looked at another family and wondered, “How are they so perfect? How do they have everything together when my family seems to be falling apart? My marriage is struggling, my kids are rebellious and my lawn needs seriously help; but their yard looks immaculate, their kids are making straight A’s, and they just went on an amazing anniversary trip. What am I doing wrong?”
Don’t be ashamed. At some time or another, we have all looked at someone else’s family and thought, “I wish my family was as happy and perfect as theirs!”
But I have news for you, friend. The family you observe and even envy, is NOT PERFECT! There is NO such thing as a perfect family. But there is such a thing as an intentional, healthy family.
The goal of family life should never be perfection, total happiness, or complete harmony, or you will be sorely disappointed. Life is hard! Things happen, people grow, and circumstances of life can change in an instant. But God never changes, and He is always faithful. If you seek His wisdom and guidance in your family, your family will not be perfect, but it can and will be healthy.
Choose to make serving God your family’s highest priority, seeking Him above all else in your family and watch how things change!
“So fear the Lord and serve him wholeheartedly. Put away forever the idols your ancestors worshiped when they lived beyond the Euphrates River and in Egypt. Serve the Lord alone. But if you refuse to serve the Lord, then choose today whom you will serve. Would you prefer the gods your ancestors served beyond the Euphrates? Or will it be the gods of the Amorites in whose land you now live? But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.”
- Joshua 24:14-15 NLT
Lord, thank you that my family doesn't have to be perfect to please you. Help me and my family focus on serving You above all else. In Jesus' name, amen.
