Life is full of decisions. Every day we are bombarded with hundreds of choices! Many of the day-to-day decisions we have to make are easy: what to wear, where to eat for dinner, what color to paint your bedroom, etc. Easy peasy! Those decisions are fun! And the consequences are relatively insignificant.
But there are other decisions in life that are much more difficult: like what to do when your coworkers are trying to include you in gossip conversations, or when you’re invited to a party that will be full of dangerous temptations, or when you see your child starting down a destructive path. Those decisions are tough! And the consequences incredibly significant.
When you are facing those hard decisions, it’s easy to think, “If I say no, my coworkers/friends/children might ridicule me or make fun of me or even hate me! I don’t want to make anyone upset or disappointed in me.”
But let me challenge you today…are your decisions and actions motivated by pleasing people? Or are the motivated by pleasing God?
“Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.”
- Galatians 1:10 NLT
Lord, thank you for giving me the ability to make choices. Help me in the tough decisions to focusing on pleasing You instead of pleasing others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
