One Beggar to Another
Posted: June 01, 2019
“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love.” Galatians 5:13
I’ve heard it said that Christianity is just one beggar telling another beggar where to find food. We’re all beggars (sinners) and we all need food (Jesus).
Sometimes, if we’re not careful, we can get comfortable in our faith and even haughty and judgmental of others. When I start to view others’ sins as “worse than mine” or see my struggling brothers and sisters in Christ as “failures who should know better,” I know I need a wake-up call!
Let’s never forget that our perfect Savior is the only one with the right to look down on anyone…and instead he gave up His life for each of us. Therefore, I live freely not to serve myself, but to serve and love others.
Jesus, may I never take for granted the grace your poured out on me when you took my place on that cross. Thank you. Show me who to point in Your direction today so that they, too, can live a life of freedom. Amen.
