Obadiah 1:12 "You shouldn’t have gloated over your brother when he was down-and-out...God’s Judgment Day is near for all the godless nations. As you have done, it will be done to you. What you did will boomerang back and hit your own head."
Nicky Gumbel states, "We should never gloat when an enemy falls. Rather we should extend the same compassion as God extends to us." ....wow.
We can all admit that when we dislike someone, we secretly wish for something bad to happen to them. It could be as harmless as wishing for the opposing team to miss a field goal or for someone to step in a puddle. But we should not be rooting for people to fail and then use their failure to feel good about ourselves. We need to constantly humble ourselves and remember that we are no better than anyone else. Our sin will be judged the same as everyone else's. Just remember that once we put ourselves on that pedestal, our sin will boomerang back and hit us upside the head.
Jesus, I pray that I never forget what you did for me and for my sin. Let me never think that I am better than anyone else. Help me to show the same love to everyone that You do. Amen.
