Since we now know that we’ve become children of God through accepting Christ as our Savior, we must also know that our Heavenly Father is a good father.
In today’s day and age, not everyone has had a good relationship with their earthly father. Maybe your father abandoned you or your family; maybe he was abusive. Or maybe he was absent or cold, never expressing love or affection toward you. If your father on earth was less than loving, it can be really hard to image God as your loving, Heavenly Father.
Scripture gives us this encouragement:
“You parents—if your children ask for a loaf of bread, do you give them a stone instead? Or if they ask for a fish, do you give them a snake? Of course not! So if you sinful people know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give good gifts to those who ask him.”
- Matthew 7:9-11 NLT
God, your Heavenly Father, is always loving, always merciful, always kind and always good. And that’s something to be thankful for!
Lord, thank you that you are a loving, merciful and kind Father, despite our experiences with our earthly fathers. Help me to trust in your goodness and loving nature. In Jesus’ name, amen.
