"When life gives you lemons..." Well, I love lemonade, but God has a better idea:
"Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, in everything give thanks; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you." 1 Thessalonians 5:16
Now, if you've been around Christians for a length of time, this verse might sound like a trite, pat-you-on-the-back-and-walk-away "bandaid." But let's be reminded: God's Word is never trite, never hollow, never ill-timed. Furthermore, this verse is not a one-time magic spell to make us happy - it's a journey. Giving thanks in the midst of a lemon-packed day is really hard. Choosing to pray and rejoice when you don't feel like it takes practice and maturity. Keep trying. You won't be sorry. Life will hand us lemons and it's up to us how to respond.
Lord, I long to grow closer to You. When life doesn't go my way, please remind me to pray no matter how difficult it is. Please remind me to give thanks and rejoice for the blessings You have already given me, and help me encourage others to do the same. Amen.
