When I think of Thanksgiving, I not only think of giving thanks, food and football - I also think of how many days of leftovers I get afterwards. I love taking some of that delicious turkey and putting it between two slices of bread. Ooh, and that sweet potato casserole with the brown sugar and pecans... and I can't forget more pumpkin pie...

But let's be honest - the leftovers are never as good as the fresh stuff hot out of the oven.

The turkey is still delicious, but not as juicy. The potatoes still hit the spot, but aren't as creamy. And the stuffing.... it's never as good as when it's fresh.

I'm pretty sure most of us would agree that leftovers simply aren't as good as the fresh stuff.

Yet sometimes in our relationship with God, the leftovers are all we give him.

God wants to spend time with us daily, but when we put everyone and everything else before him, when we just give Him what is leftover at the end of the day or after everything else, we can miss out on the wonderful blessings of a healthy prayer and devotional life.

God doesn't want our leftovers - he wants our very best.

God says to, "Seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well." - Matt 6:33

During this holiday season, let's choose to put God first and give him our very best.

God, I know this time of year is crazy busy. Help me to remember that you are what is most important. Help me to always give you my first and my best, no matter what. In Jesus' name, amen.
