In Jesus' Name

Posted: April 09, 2018

Have you ever wondered why people end their prayers with, "In Jesus' name"? As a kid growing up in church I never understood why all of the adults would say it.

“I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it!" John 14:12-14

Nowadays, we hear things like, "Oh my God" or "Jesus" in people's everyday vocabulary. As believers we know this is using the Lord's name in vain. Very simply, some people just don't know the power and the weight that His name holds.

I now know why people finish their prayers with, "In Jesus' name we pray." When we pray, we are acknowledging that we need help or we have something to be thankful for. By finishing our prayers with Jesus' name, we are directing the praise back to Him and giving God the glory.

God, I pray that I won't ever forget the power in Your name. Help me to pray big prayers in faith and believe that they will come to fruition. I believe that You can do all things. I am grateful that You listen to my prayers and will act on my behalf. In Jesus' name, Amen.
