"I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.” - John 16:33 (NLT)
I don't have to tell you how often we're confronted by difficult or trying circumstances. They happen more often than we would prefer, to say the least. I'm sure most of us would prefer to never struggle. But let me challenge you with this - if there were no struggle, there would be no opportunity for God to provide a miracle.
When trials and troubles come, we get to choose how we will respond. Will we respond with anger? Will we cuss? Will we cry? Will we turn and run? Will we yell at God? Will we abandon our faith?
Jesus was the most persecuted and scrutinized person that ever lived. His disciples bore witness to this, and they even watched him die a criminal's death as he took their sin, our shame, the world's failures to the Cross. But before he carried our pain to Calvary, he encouraged us and his disciples. He said that struggles and uncertainties and trials and sorrows would come. BUT, to not lose heart. He knew how easy it would be to get discouraged and want to throw our hands up in the air and give up, so he told us how to respond. Don't give up. Don't give in. Don't walk away from God. Don't abandon your faith. Take heart. Be courageous. Have hope. Be encouraged. Hold on to God's Word and his promises. Because Chris has overcome. Jesus conquered everything. And we can trust his promises and put our hope in his name.
Lord, I help me to lean on you and your promises. Today, I confess that I need you, and I need your presence with me. Thank you for Jesus, and thank you for overcoming it all for me on the Cross. Help me to tryst you, no matter what. In Jesus' name, amen.
