Psalm 46 paints some vivid pictures. These are not in order, but take a look…
“Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging…”
Yikes, that’s bleak. Honestly, it makes me think of a person on the verge of suicide. Imagine all this anguish going on in your own mind. Whenever I hear of someone taking their own life, my heart breaks and I can’t help but think ‘What if he had held on? What if she had gotten the help she needed? What kind of future could they have had?’
Because as a Christ follower, I believe that there is always hope. Psalm 46 also says:
“There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.
God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day. God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear…”
What light and hope and revival that is to my soul!
Do you need help today? Do you see more despair than hope? Are you drowning in darkness?
Run to Him. He is a River of Life, He is your Refuge and Strength, He is your Help in any trouble! And it will get better.
Heavenly Father, I pray specifically today for anyone who feels overcome by turmoil. I pray that they would escape to You, and that You would show Yourself, and that the chains of depression and anxiety and hopelessness would be released once and for all! Help me on my dark days to turn to You and not to anyone or anything else. I praise You for Your mercy, grace, and love. Amen.
