You want to know something funny? My maiden name is Green. Just like the color.
But you want to know what’s even funnier? I have a hard time keeping green things alive in my house. I don’t have any sort of “green-thumb” whatsoever. As a matter of fact, I’ve accidentally killed just about every plant I’ve ever had. (I’m not exaggerating!)
I try so hard, but somehow I always get it wrong! I either completely forget about the plant, therefore forget to water it and it wilts and dies. Or, I try to be very conscientious of the plant and end up over watering and over nurturing it to death.
My husband laughs at the irony of how un-green I am considering I literally used to be a “Green.”
But despite my lack of a green-thumb, I still find plants fascinating. When you look at a seed, tiny and plain, it amazes me that someday, if planted and watered correctly, a new life will spring forth from it. Isn’t it wild how a little seed can grow to be something as big as an oak tree? But first, the seed must be buried, planted and it must die. Only then will it turn into a mighty and fruitful tree!
What seeds in your life do you need to plant into the hands of God? What do you need to allow to die in your life order for new life to spring forth?
"I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat is planted in the soil and dies, it remains alone. But its death will produce many new kernels—a plentiful harvest of new lives."
- John 12:24 NLT
Lord, thank you that you can make new life out of a tiny seed. Help me to die to myself so that new life can spring forth in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
