Just recently I had to assemble a large piece of furniture. It was a preacher cussin’ job, if you know what I mean.
But thankfully, even though the assembly was not for the faint of heart, it came with great instructions.
Each step was laid out one by one, with pictures and specific instructions on exactly which (and how many screws) were needed for each step. Step by step, while carefully following the instructions, I was successful in putting together that large piece of furniture (with help, I’ll admit!).
I can only imagine how difficult that task would have been had I not had any instructions to go by. Thankfully, the instructions were clear, easy to read and completely applicable to the task at hand.
As Christians, we have been given great instructions for our journey through life in the Bible. Just as I can’t imagine assembling that furniture without the instructions, I can’t imagine tackling the struggles, difficult decisions and frustrating moments in life without the Word of God as my guide.
“I have hidden your word in my heart, that I might not sin against you.”
- Psalm 119:11 NLT
Lord, thank you for your Word which guides us and instructs us through life. Help us to study your Word, meditating on it until we know it by heart. In Jesus’ name, amen.
