Grace & Truth

Posted: December 12, 2016

Our culture today tells us that grace and truth are opposites. That they cannot coexist. That it must be just one or the other. You can either give grace (and ignore sin), or you can speak truth (and forget grace altogether). But either way, you can’t do both at the same time according to the world!

But thankfully, our culture doesn’t dictate our beliefs as Christians. Instead, the Word of God is our guide, and the Bible tells us that when Jesus came, he was full of grace AND truth!

As Max Lucado writes, "God doesn't condone our sin, nor does he compromise his standard. He doesn't ignore our rebellion, nor does he relax his demands. Rather than dismiss our sin, he assumes our sin and, incredibly, sentences himself. God is still holy. Sin is still sin. And we are redeemed."

God didn’t compromise his truth to give us grace, but instead he sent Jesus to become sin, so that we could experience the fullness of grace in Him!

“God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.”
- 2 Corinthians 5:21 NIV

Lord, thank you for sending Jesus to become sin for us, so that we could be shown God’s amazing grace. Help us to share Your grace and truth to others, especially this holiday season. In Jesus’ name, amen.
