"If your child asks for bread, do you trick him with sawdust? If he asks for fish, do you scare him with a live snake on his plate? As bad as you are, you wouldn’t think of such a thing. You’re at least decent to your own children. So don’t you think the God who conceived you in love will be even better?" Matthew 7:11
Sometimes we see God as a great Santa Claus in the sky ("just ask for whatever you want and you'll get it!") and sometimes we view God as the mean old man next-door ("don't even bother asking, he won't give you anything.")
But the reality is that God loves to give good gifts to his children. And because He is omniscient (all-knowing), only He knows when it's the right time, when our hearts are ready to receive it, and when it will be to our best benefit.
So if there's something you're seeking from your Heavenly Father, keep asking (it doesn't get on His nerves like it does with us) but also prepare to receive the gift!
Heavenly Father, thank You for giving me good gifts, like joy, peace, and strength. I want to receive all that You have for me! Speak to me about what I can do in preparation for all the good gifts you have in store for me. Amen.
