You may have heard it said that God's ways are sometimes opposite, or backwards, compared to this world we live in.
"Then he said to the crowd, 'If any of you wants to be my follower, you must give up your own way, take up your cross daily, and follow me. If you try to hang on to your life, you will lose it. But if you give up your life for my sake, you will save it.'" Luke 9:23-24
Jesus is telling these people about God's economy: when you give something away, you actually end up gaining more than what you gave. God's funny like that. He takes broken, dirty, less-than stuff and turns it into something better than it ever was. He teaches us this continual lesson in trusting Him with everything (money, time, skills, emotions, etc.)
Lord, I'm so glad that You are the ultimate bank/calendar/manager/counselor for me. I want to be a good steward of all that You have entrusted to me, and I know that means giving away what You have blessed me with. It all came from You in the first place! Show me how to be more generous and focus more on others than myself. Amen.
