I've decided that if you had to describe Thanksgiving to someone that was unfamiliar with the holiday, it could be summed with the following: giving thanks, food comas, and football. Or is it giving thanks for food comas and football….? Of course we give thanks on Thanksgiving - that's what you do. Whether we give thanks for the food we eat, the family we share it with, or the year we've had, we're used to giving thanks on Thanksgiving.
But what about the rest of year? Do we make an effort to give thanks to God every day? Or do we only remember to do it on Thanksgiving? That would be like only telling your spouse you love him or her on Valentine's Day. That would never work.
1 Chronicles 16:34 says, "Give thanks to God—he is good and his love never quits." Let's not just give thanks on Thanksgiving. Let's make an effort to thank God every day, no matter what.
God, you bless me beyond measure. Thank you for your blessing and favor. Thank you for your goodness and your unfailing love. Help me to remain grateful always, and to give you the praise you deserve. In Jesus' name, amen.
