Friday Night Football

Posted: November 17, 2016

I grew up in football country, where Friday night football games were a big deal! Our team was one of the best in the state, with many state championship trophies to prove it.

Football games were so fun! The crowd was always full of energy, and would cheer wildly with excitement when our team successfully completed a long pass, caught an interception or made a sweet touchdown.

I’ll never forget my senior year of high school when our team made the winning touchdown to clinch the state championship from our biggest rival. My friends and I went crazy, shouting with joy because of the awesome victory for our team! It was amazing! Nothing could take away the feeling in that moment, and all we wanted to do was squeal with excitement as we talked over and over about how awesome the game was and how sweet the victory!

While it’s easy to get that excited over football, do we get that excited over seeing the Lord’s victory in the battles of our lives? We should be shouting for joy and celebrating our ultimate victory through Christ because of what he did for us on the cross!

So the next time you experience joy in Christ or remember his victory on the cross, raise your voice like it’s Friday night football!

“Shouts of joy and victory resound in the tents of the righteous:
‘The Lord’s right hand has done mighty things! The Lord’s right hand is lifted high; the Lord’s right hand has done mighty things!’”
- Psalm 118:15-17 NIV

Lord, thank you for the joy and victory we have in you. Help us to raise our voice in excitement, shouting praise to you for all the awesome things you’ve done and for your sweet victory. In Jesus’ name, amen.
