Have you ever thought about how long that really is? It's like, for eternity. Til the end of time. Except there is no "end of time" so, it's even longer than that.
If you're a parent I'm certain you've heard this phrase from your children before:
"But - that's gonna take forever!" or "We haven't eaten in forever!"
And if not your child, definitely someone else's.
And maybe you remember that one part in The Sandlot where Squints says "For-ev-ver. For-ev-er. FOR-EV-VER."
Forever is a loooooong time. Nothing really lasts forever, does it?
Isaiah 40:8 says, "The grass withers and the flowers fade, but the word of our God stands forever.”
The prophet Isaiah was encouraging the people in their wait for the Messiah. God was speaking through him to trust God at his word and know that it will come to pass, because God’s word and his promises will stand true forever.
There are all sorts of things we could be referring to in the context of "forever" but there are only 2 things that really last forever: God's Word & God's Kingdom.
So no matter what you're thinking or battling through today, know that in spite of your teenager's dramatic cries like "But - that's gonna take forever!" or "We haven't eaten in forever!" that God's Word & Kingdom really do last forever, and God's Word will sustain you until the day you enter God's Kingdom.
Lord, help me to trust you at your word no matter what. Let your word be on my mind and in my heart. May I meditate on your thoughts towards me and on your promises spoken to me through your word. In Jesus' name, amen.
