Don't be Stingy

“But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!”
Galatians 5:22-23 NLT
Do you think Paul was getting a little frustrated with those Galatians? It kinda makes me smirk because he sounds like a parent or a teacher: “it won’t kill you to be a little more patient/kind/gentle! Sheesh!”
My biggest problem, and I don’t think I’m alone in this, is that I sometimes get caught up in whether or not the person I’m about to “show my fruit to” DESERVES it.
Does my kindness towards my kids depend on their level of obedience lately?
Does my patience towards my spouse depend on how much respect he/she has been showing me?
Does my joy in the workplace depend on how helpful my coworkers are being?
The answer should be no, but often times I like to play judge and be stingy with my fruit.
And I need to stop that.
Jesus, I know that I don’t deserve the grace and love You freely give, so let me not be judgmental towards others. I want to show the fruit that only comes from You, and I want it to lead others to You, ultimately.
Help me be less stingy with the fruit in my life. Amen.
