Do, Love, Walk

Posted: January 16, 2019

Have you ever thought about all the “recommendations” made to you to keep you safe, healthy, and happy?
For example: get 8 hours of sleep, change your smoke detector batteries every 6 months, eat 4 square meals per day, give 10 hugs a day, replace your furnace filter every 3 months, exercise 30 minutes a day, floss daily, check all your lights and mirrors before you pull out of the driveway, date your spouse weekly, wash your bedsheets every 2 weeks, take one multivitamin per day, call your mom once a week, drink 8 glasses of water a day, sharpen the knives in your kitchen once a month, meditate every morning, water your lawn……well I’m exhausted. Honestly, I think if a person did every single thing recommended to maintain themselves, their relationships, and their belongings, they wouldn’t have time for ANYTHING else!
Let’s simplify, shall we?

“O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” Micah 6:8 NLT

Do what is right.
Love others.
Walk with Jesus.
That’s all.
Yes, we have to go to work and pay our bills and hang with the fam, but let’s not get bogged down with so many obligations that we forget to keep the main thing the main thing.

Jesus, thank You for such clear guidance in Your Word. Let me not get overwhelmed by frivolous responsibilities and self-imposed pressure…but instead be overwhelmed by Your love, mercy, peace, goodness, and grace so that I can share it with others. Amen.
