"If You Don't Love"
Posted: February 27, 2019
“My beloved friends, let us continue to love each other since love comes from God. Everyone who loves is born of God and experiences a relationship with God. The person who refuses to love doesn’t know the first thing about God, because God is love—so you can’t know him if you don’t love. This is how God showed his love for us: God sent his only Son into the world so we might live through him. This is the kind of love we are talking about—not that we once upon a time loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as a sacrifice to clear away our sins and the damage they’ve done to our relationship with God.” 1 John 4:10 (The Message)
That’s a bold statement: “you can’t know Him if you don’t love.” Ouch! But we can all learn and grow in our love for others, and I’m sure you’ve heard that love is most often spelled t - i - m - e.
- love God better by devoting some peaceful time to Him this week
- love your spouse better by focusing your attention on him/her when you’re together
- love your kids better by putting aside distractions and asking them some meaningful questions
- love your neighbor better by helping them in the yard even when it’s not exactly convenient
Jesus, You displayed love in the ultimate way by dying for my sins. I want to honor You by devoting my time and love to You, and the priorities You’ve entrusted to me. Show me when and how, even in the little things, to love those around me better. Amen!
