You're My Favorite!

I love my kids, and I love being a dad. It's one of my favorite things about this season of life that I'm in, and they, along with my wife, are seriously my favorite people on the planet.
My oldest, is like a mine-me. She is a straight-up people person. She will walk up to new kids at church and talk with them like she's their best friend. And she's not shy with the kids in the neighborhood either. She just loves being around people and loves to talk. She definitely gets that from me.
My youngest, however, is just like her mother. She's quiet, gentle, doesn't like crowds, but is sooooo funny. She's quiet initially, but once you get to know her and she gets to know you, she warms up to you and makes you feel like you're the most important person in the whole world. She definitely gets that from her mom.
Have you ever thought about the things your kids inherit from you? Of course there's the good looks and cuteness factor. But your personality, your values, your morals, your likes and dislikes often rub off on your children too.
It's the same with God. Genesis says that he created us "in his image" and that we're just like him in so many ways. I often wonder if God ever sees us do something he's proud of, looks at an angel and brags, "he gets that from me!" I also wonder if God looks at us and says "You're my favorite!" Probably, because he's a good Father and he loves us so much. I mean, he's God, so he can totally say that and mean it.
We're children of the King, and we inherit his best traits -- “the riches ... of his grace ... kindness ... patience ... glory ... wisdom ... power ... and mercy” (Ephesians 1:7; Romans 2:4; 9:23; 11:33; Ephesians 3:16; 2:4). We also inherit eternal life and God puts his Spirit inside us now as a guarantee of all that is to come. We get to spend eternity with him, in Heaven.
Know who he is, and know who you are in him. You're a child of God. You're a child of the King.
"This resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It’s adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike “What’s next, Papa?” God’s Spirit touches our spirits and confirms who we really are. We know who he is, and we know who we are: Father and children. And we know we are going to get what’s coming to us—an unbelievable inheritance! We go through exactly what Christ goes through. If we go through the hard times with him, then we’re certainly going to go through the good times with him!"
- Romans 8:15-17 (MSG)
Lord, thank you for the inheritance that I have in you. Thank you for the many wonderful traits I have because I am your child. Thank you for the life I get to share with you now, and thank you for the life I will get to share with you in heaven. Help me to remember that I am your child, and that you are my father. In Jesus' name, amen.
