Victoria Soto: brunette, twenty-seven years old, first-grade teacher. Sounds like an ordinary person, right?
What if I told you she huddled herself over her students during the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting in 2012 saving the lives of her students, but losing her own?
That changes everything! But that’s exactly what she did. Within moments, she went from ordinary school teacher to hero, all because she sacrificed her life to save others. When you think about a situation like that, it’s gut-wrenching and heartbreaking, yet it fills you with respect, honor, and thankfulness for her sacrifice for the sake of those she saved.
When you think about Jesus, do you get those same feelings or respect, honor and thankfulness for his sacrifice? He gave his life so that we could have life. He died so that we could live forever. Why did he do it? Because he loved us more than his own life.
“Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.”
- John 15:13 NIV
Jesus, thank you for dying for me. Because you paid the price for my sin with your life on the cross, I can have eternal life in heaven. Help me to never forget what you did for me, and to share about your sacrifice with others. In Jesus’ name, amen.
