Are you a checklist person? Some people are, some people aren’t. I LOVE my checklists. I live and die by my checklists! If it doesn’t go on my list, I won’t remember, and it certainly won’t get done. I find real satisfaction in crossing completed tasks off my list, and love the feeling of accomplishment that comes as a result. I even write things on my list that I’ve already done, just so I can have the satisfaction of checking them off my list (yes, my list obsession is that bad). All you other checklist people out there know what I’m talking about!

While there’s nothing wrong with productivity and efficiency, we have to remember that God’s not looking for all of the good works we’ve crossed off of our list in order for us to earn our salvation. Our salvation and right-standing with God is solely because of his grace. No matter how much we do to serve God or help others, our salvation comes from a gracious God, who loves us and wants a relationship with us regardless of our accomplishments.

So next time you go to cross something off your list, take a moment and thank God for his grace!

God saved you by his grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.”

- Ephesians 2:8-9 NLT

Lord, thank you for your grace that gives us salvation. Thank you that you love us regardless of what we do or don’t achieve, and that you desire a relationship with us even when we don’t “measure up.”  In Jesus’ name, amen.
