Making Time for Jesus

Posted: July 02, 2016

“I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.

- John 15:5-8

Have you ever asked yourself, “How can I make more time for Jesus in my life?”

Yeah, me too. But I've realized recently that there is a problem with this question, because it’s easy to compartmentalize our relationship with Jesus. It's something we try to pencil in on our calendars. We wake up, go to work, come home, see the fam, and then, if we're up for it and not too tired, we can have some time with Jesus.

And this is where the problem lies. Our relationship with Jesus can't be reduced to a few minutes at the end of the day before bedtime. Jesus can't just be part of your life. He needs to BE your life - in every moment of every day. When you wake up, while you're at work, and while you're with your fam, spend some time with Jesus. Talk with him. Think for a moment about his Word and include him in everything you do.

Lord, BE my life. I want you to be involved and included in every thought I think and everything I do. I want to feel your presence with me and hear you speak to me. I want a deeper relationship with you. In Jesus' name, amen.
