Mulligans for Life

Posted: July 01, 2016

I played a round of golf recently and completely shanked my shot off the tee. It was seriously awful. Just... bad. And embarrassing. Thankfully I was giving myself a mulligan per hole. Ok, not really, it was a mulligan per 9, but still, I definitely took one on this hole. You might be asking, what's a mulligan? A mulligan is essentially a second chance in golf. If you mess up a shot, you can take a second one without counting the first. It's a second chance.

One of the coolest things about God is that he is a God of seconds chances. Well, he his, kinda, but in reality he's so much greater than that, because he doesn't stop at second chances. He gives us third chances, fourth chances, fifth chances, and however many more chances we'll need after that. He gives us mulligans for life! He's a God who's anger lasts for a moment, but his favor lasts for a lifetime. (Ps. 30:5)

Check out this verse from Psalm 30:2 in The Message:

“God, my God, I yelled for help and you put me together. God, you pulled me out of the grave, gave me another chance at life when I was down-and-out.”

No matter what you've done in the last 5 minutes or 5 years, give yourself to God, because he's ready to give you another chance.

And another chance.

And another chance.

And another chance.

And as many chances you'll need until his work is perfected and completed in you. (Phil. 1:6)

Lord, thank you for all the chances you give me to serve and love you more. Thank you for each time you've forgiven me and shown me your love and grace. Help me to honor you with my life. In Jesus' name, amen.
