Many of us have heard that God's plans for our lives are to "prosper us and... give us hope and a future" (Jer. 29:11). But it's something we usually say when things don't seem very prosperous or hopeful. What do we do when things seem like the opposite, like things are hopeless? God told us just a couple verses later. He continued through Jeremiah, "'You will seek me and you will find me when you seek me with all your heart. I will be found by you,' declares the Lord, 'and will bring you back from your captivity'" (v. 13-14).
There's a connection between seeking God wholeheartedly and receiving His promises. Seeking God first takes the attention off of the promise and puts it on the Promiser. So no matter your struggle today or this week or this year, continue to seek God and trust that the promise of hope and prosperity is on it's way. You will find him. You will find hope.
Lord, you know my struggles. You know my good days and my bad days. I thank you that the promise of hope is always available for me, no matter what kind of day or week or year I'm having. Help me to trust you, and more importantly, help me to seek you first. In Jesus' name, amen.
