Be Like Mike

"You paid careful attention to the way we lived among you, and determined to live that way yourselves. In imitating us, you imitated the Master... Your lives are echoing the Master's Word... We don't even have to say anything anymore - you're the message!" - 1 Thess. 1:5-6 (MSG)
Back in the 90s, there was a Gatorade commercial called "Be Like Mike." It was all about drinking Gatorade and doing the things that Michael Jordan did, so that, hopefully, one day, you could "be like Mike." In the church world, however, we shouldn't aspire to "be like" an athlete or celebrity. Rather, we should aspire to be like Christ. Jesus doesn't expect perfection from us, but he wants us to live our lives in a way that will make us more like him and bring people closer to the knowledge of who He is.
This means that we should do what Jesus did. We should love those that aren't loved, give to those who lack, and live in communion and connection with the Father.
So again the real question is, when people look at your life, what are they learning about Jesus?
Lord, I want people to know you through me. I want to live my life in a way that teaches those around me about your love and grace. Help me to be more like you. Help me to be like Jesus. It's in his holy name I pray, amen.
