Keep a cool head. Stay alert. The Devil is poised to pounce, and would like nothing better than to catch you napping. Keep your guard up. You’re not the only ones plunged into these hard times. It’s the same with Christians all over the world. So keep a firm grip on the faith. The suffering won’t last forever. It won’t be long before this generous God who has great plans for us in Christ—eternal and glorious plans they are!—will have you put together and on your feet for good. He gets the last word; yes, he does.
1 Peter 5:8-11 (MSG)
Our enemy is aggressive, but he's incredibly smart. He works in the shadows, quietly, strategically, until it's time to wreak havoc and bring destruction. He eagerly waits for us to let our guard down. The French Phrase "en garde" means "to assume the prescribed position preparatory to action; to adopt a defensive stance in readiness for an attack."
We can't allow ourselves to live our lives for God passively. The enemy will always come after us and our families. It's not a matter of if, but when. We need to be mindful that we are always at war, and to let our guard down is to open ourselves up to destruction.
Lord, make me ready for each battle. Help me stay "en garde" for when the attack comes. Help me to not grow weary or complacent. Give me the courage to fight every battle that comes my way, knowing you are there with me. In Jesus' name, amen.
