I have a confession. I’m not always proud of the words that come out of my mouth. More often than I’d like to admit, complaints roll off my tongue like butter. If it’s not a complaint, then I am eager to express my anxiety, list every single negative possibility, or declare that a situation is doomed (even before it ever happens!). Anybody else with me?
But what you say matters. Each word you speak is either life-giving or toxic and destructive.
I realized that what I was saying with my mouth was affecting my emotions, my relationship with others and my relationship with God. The same is true with your words - they also have power. So let's choose today to speak life.
"The tongue can bring death or life; those who love to talk will reap the consequences."
- Proverbs 18:21
Lord, I thank you that every word you speak brings life and blessing. Help me to speak life and to speak your truth in every word that I think and say. Help me to give life to those I am around. In Jesus' name I pray, amen.
