The newer iPhones have TouchID on the home button. It’s basically a fancy fingerprint scanner that allows you to unlock your phone, download apps, pay for things, etc. Another new feature that came out last fall is called Hey Siri. It’s basically a hands-free fancy way for you to talk with the virtual assistant on your phone. What’s so neat about this feature is that Siri recognizes your voice, even if your phone is across the room. You just say “Hey Siri” and she answers, listening to what you’re gonna say next.
After some thought, I’ve decided that the Hey Siri feature isn’t that much different from God speaking to us. At the end of the day, it’s all about voice recognition. Siri responds, ready to listen, because she immediately recognizes your voice when you speak to her.
Do you recognize God’s voice when he’s speaking to you? Sometimes we’re distracted or busy, but as long as we recognize his voice, we'll be ready to listen when he’s speaking to us.
John 10:4 says, “After he has gathered his own flock, he walks ahead of them, and they follow him because they know his voice."
Lord, I want to always hear when you're speaking to me, even if it’s crowded by other voices and distractions. Help me to hear you when you speak and to always be ready to listen. In Jesus’ Name, amen.
