Just Like Mom

I remember several instances growing up (more times than I’d like to admit) when my mother would tell me to do something I didn’t want to do. She always knew what was best for me, but sometimes I just didn't listen. Other times, I would hear her instruction and then decide for myself if I wanted to do what she asked. And there were other times still where I listened and just flat out didn't do what I was told. But that’s not what God wants from us. Because just like mom, God always wants what's best for us. When we read his Word and hear his voice, he wants us to not only listen, but also do what he says, trusting in His goodness and faithfulness.
“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says!” - James 1:22
Lord, help me to hear your voice and listen to your words. Thank you that I can trust your plans for me even when I think I know better. Give me the strength to willingly and joyfully do all that you ask of me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
