Good Listening Stars

Posted: May 19, 2016

If your kids are anything like mine, getting them to do what you tell them to is a chore. Clean up your room. Brush your teeth. Wash your hands. Wear a coat. Do this. Don't do that. (Seriously, this list could go on for days). It's not that they're always disobedient. No no. Half the battle is getting them to hear you, because most of the time they're not listening to you when you talk. So last year we started using what's called a Good Listening Star chart. When our kids listen the first time, they get a star. And when they fill up the chart with stars, they get Sweet Frog.

We adults struggle with this too, and probably as much as our kids do. God's always speaking to us, but most of the time we're not listening because we're busy playing with play-doh or watching Paw Patrol (or whatever we're doing when we're not listening to God). And although God may not have a Good Listening Star chart for us, I know for certain that his best for us is way better than ice cream.

"My sheep listen to my voice; I know them and they follow me." - John 10:27

Lord, you really do know what's best for me and I thank you for it. I want to hear you when you speak to me. And not only that, I want to respond to what you're saying. Speak, Lord. I am listening. In Jesus' name, amen.
